Certified Healthcare Safety Professional CHSP

The Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) course by American Institute of Safety Professionals conducts in-depth studies on safety management in healthcare contexts specifying how professionals can recognize, evaluate, and manage occupational risks in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care centers. The course covers how to adhere to requirements both nationally and internationally including the OSHA’s General Industry Standards (29 CFR 1910), the Joint Commission Environment of Care (EC) standards, NFPA 99 standards for healthcare facilities, CDC’s guidelines for infection control and workplace safety, and other CDC guidelines. Students also assess risk evaluation, incident investigation, control and recognition of hazards, and evaluate the effectiveness of control imposed with emphasis on safety of the patients, staff, and visitors. There are also the pivotal elements of bloodborne pathogens (OSHA §1910.1030), chemical safety, ergonomics, and fire safety, incident command, and emergency preparedness, safety of healthcare technology and equipment, and lessons derived from historical healthcare incidents and practices. Students are also able to reinforce the organizational proactive safety culture and safety program compliance with regulations and standards through safety program elements, safety compliance audits, training design, and safety audits. Using case studies, simulations, and practical exercises, participants learn how to combine policies with engineering controls, administrative strategies, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to mitigate risks and improve healthcare results. After completing the program, participants are ready to spearhead safety initiatives, apply evidence-based approaches, and maintain safe, high-quality, and ethically sustainable healthcare environments that improve occupational safety and health, safeguard patient care, and meet regulatory requirements.

Participants will receive online training through Microsoft Teams and LMS. Courses are offered by accredited broadcasters and backed by expert instruction and official study materials. All assessments are conducted online and successful participants are awarded certificates that are accepted internationally.

This program follows global workplace health and safety standards, and is taught by industry experts. Successful students receive an American Institute of Safety Professionals accredited certificate which is recognized by several employers and regulatory bodies. Graduates receive a master certificate, course completion certificate (if applicable), an official transcript, a wallet card, and access to a professional safety network which promotes ongoing learning and career growth.

The program is designed to offer flexible online learning with a minimum instructional contact time of 8 hours. Most learners successfully complete the course within one month, allowing them to progress at their own pace while balancing professional commitments.

Candidates can take this exam through an assigned portal from the American Institute of Safety Professionals. A passing score is 70% or higher, and exam results are provided right after by email to the address provided. The exam is open-book, allowing candidates to validate their answers. Any candidates who do not pass have 1 month after their exam to go through the training materials and can take the exam 3 additional times.
